I cant mine or place blocks and items only throwables like ender pearls

I was playing dark smp when i tried to mine a crafting table for a trap i was making. However, it would not register and made me vulnerable to players. I could type in chat and move. I could interact with blocks like crafting tables and ender pearls. HELP!!!
